Our daily legacy
One of the things that I have come to enjoy and appreciate most about ABCD is that it is not simply a methodology or approach that can be employed to change working practices or behaviours. It is so much more. It is a way of seeing the world, not just as it is but as it could be.
Part of this, for me, is in recognising the incremental impact that the things I do and say have on the people and the environment around me. Every day I leave a legacy in the wake of my actions. As do you.
This is at once powerful and empowering for anyone seeking to bring ABCD to their lives and their communities. Because the world that we see through an ABCD lens can be daunting at times. It suggests transformational change in the way we live our lives, think about success, create structures and institutions and engage in civic life. It can be a little overwhelming.
Until you remember that every day you can help to create that world a little bit at a time. Invite the neighbours round for that BBQ you’re having at the weekend. Take the time to understand issues of difference. Spare a smile for people you pass on the street. Recycle more. Do something fun in your neighbourhood that will bring a smile to other people’s faces. Remember that you matter, your gifts are important and you have a part to play in creating a vibrant future with us all.
What will be your legacy today?
