Take a street and build a community: Shani Graham at TEDxPerth

There’s rubbish on the street, and some folks they’ve got no job
And the ambulance came half an hour too late to save old Bob
And he just aint been the same since his grandson got in trouble
And you’re hearing on the news, it’s yet another bloody housing bubble
Maybe you get to feeling despair’s sweet seductive pull….
But ask yourself “Is the glass half empty, or is it half full?”
Let’s suggest before you go wringing your hands out in despair
That the resources you’re looking for already right there
In the joyful sound of porch parties shared with your friends and neighbours
In their gifts of head and hands and heart, in their intensions and behaviours
And the problem so overwhelming, you felt you could never do it
Turns out to be, at least in part, a question of how you view it
And that maybe what it takes to turn conflict to collaboration
Is a cup of tea, a Nanaimo Bar, and an honest, open hearted conversation?
I won’t say “ Ah It’s all OK whichever way it ends.”
There’s troubles and solutions and the outcome it depends
If we work together wisely, or fritter like a fool
So you tell me…is the glass half empty, or is it half full?
