Workshop, Shoalhaven City Council
21 August 2015 – ABCD workshop with Shoalhaven City Council staff.
The talk, provided as part of Shoalhaven City Council ongoing In Conversation series, provided local residents with an insight into the benefit of citizen led initiatives in attempting to build a community from the inside out.
This is what Joanna Gash, Mayor of the City of Shoalhaven, said about the session:
“Asset-Based Community Development is a fantastic initiative designed to capitalise on the existing skills of local residents, institutions and our many service and sporting clubs in creating a more unified community,”.
“Mr Russell has demonstrated success in ABCD through his years of work training communities across the globe.
“His experience includes his recent work with national sporting organisations in Canada, in conjunction with the Canadian Council for Ethics in Sport, in adopting a shared vision as to how sport can become an asset for community building.”
“He is also currently leading a national program in partnership with Youth Work Ireland in promoting a strength based approach to working with young people.”
“The completed program will see hundreds of youth practitioners and thousands of young citizens coming together in the development of a strong culture of youth led initiatives.”
“The Shoalhaven is home to a diverse range of hard working and committed groups and volunteers making it the perfect location for a successful Asset-Based Community Development program.”
