Stewardship Circle

The Stewardship Circle is an Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) Leadership Programme developed by Nurture Development. It is designed to come alongside leaders in ABCD across the world.

We have successfully facilitated our first Stewardship Circle in Gloucestershire, UK, who are interested in supporting the legacy of Barnwood Trust’s 10 year plan called You’re Welcome, which aims to build more welcoming and inclusive communities across the county.

The Stewardship Circle offers an invitation to people to reflect on the role of leadership in creating a culture where communities can connect the strengths of local people to build neighbourhoods from the inside out, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to make a contribution to the place where they live. We recognise that this requires an alternative approach to leadership that isn’t about directing change from the top, but rather creating the conditions that enable people in communities to take action on the things that are important to them.

This programme works through the convening a group of peers across a city, County or Region, working in community, inclusion, health, policing and housing to share their understanding, experience and challenges of adopting an ABCD approach with each other.

The Stewardship Circle offers a total of six sessions over nine months.

Each session is facilitated by an internationally experienced ABCD practitioner, who hosts discussions on specific topics and poses questions for the Stewardship group to explore. Those involved share an interest in nurturing community- led action in the neighbourhoods they serve.
